- <p> She's been singing since fourth grade on New York's Long
- Island, so Taylor Dayne, 27, has paid her dues. Along the way
- were a variety of club stints, including a gig belting Russian
- folk songs ("That paid the rent"). Taking success in stride, she
- had no "second-album jitters" with Can't Fight Fate, the current
- follow-up to her hot 1987 LP. New songs need a new great Dayne
- look, so she's dropped the old "image of a vixen with massive
- hair." Upkeep is easier. Says she: "There's not so much
- backbreaking curling-iron work."
